The North Berwick West Sands Coastal Erosion Charity has been established to help protect and preserve one of Scotland’s most iconic and historically significant coastal landscapes.

Our purpose reflects both environmental stewardship and heritage protection:

  • To support the protection and improvement of the West Sands for the benefit of the public
  • To safeguard the heritage of North Berwick, including its world-renowned coastline and golfing landscape
  • To help ensure that both the natural environment and the historic West Links Golf Course can be sustained for future generations

The West Links is widely recognised as one of the most iconic links courses in the world, and its coastal setting is fundamental to its character and significance. Protecting the dune system and coastal boundary is therefore essential not only environmentally, but also in preserving an important part of Scotland’s golfing heritage.

Through community support, fundraising and collaboration, the charity aims to make a meaningful contribution to these shared goals.
